Studee-Buddee is a non-profit, peer-to-peer mentoring program for children of all ages, where children are paired together by area of skill or other dimensions. They will be teaching each other how to complete different problems/activities in the subject/area that they excel in. For example, pairing one who excels in sports with one who excels academically, or one who is popular with one who may not be so popular, or one who is an overachiever with one who is lazy, etc. One student may have a different way of learning, and may be able to help the other learn in a way that they will understand. Pairing is done during class time, after each subject when they do their assignments.
Our mission is to provide an opportunity for every child to become educated, successful, and responsible adults, with the help of peers and mentors.
Our goal is to use peer-to-peer mentoring as a way to make learning easier and fun. By teaming students with one another, we are creating an environment where students will be able to focus on the topic at hand, and enjoy learning. Another goal of this program is to eliminate cliques in school, peer pressure, and create long lasting friendships between students. By using a reward system, such as candies or prizes, the students will want to participate in this unique program.
Studee-Buddee will work because we realize that each student is different and may learn differently. We are taking the concept of peer pressure, but turning it into a positive context, where instead of pressuring each other into doing drugs, committing crimes, being a delinquent and falling behind in school, we are encouraging them to have the confidence that they can be teachers, and lead others in a positive way. By carefully analyzing each student and their areas of strengths and weaknesses, we can pair them together with a student that has the opposite strengths and weaknesses. Students can relate to each other in such a way that the problem/activity will be easy to comprehend
There are many people that are needed in order for this program to be a success, and we will start with teachers. Teachers are needed in order to explain and create the program in each classroom and create awareness of the program outside of the classroom. Mentors or volunteers such as myself are to be supervisors to each pair/group of children. Last, but not least, the children (students) are needed in order to make this program succeed because most of the teaching lies in their hands. And with this, we hope to create successful, educated responsible leaders for our future!!
